Christmas for South "O" - Dec 20 & 21, 2006

We experienced two days of action packed activity and personal experience with the opportunity to serve with Mission for All Nations at the Christmas for South O party!

Please post your poignant, funny, heart-warming experiences from our adventure!

December 20 & 21, 2006 were 2 days to remember! Westside came out in full force (nearly 100 people total) in support of our community. As a member of the team, it was an amazing experience to see the hand & heart of God move in the volunteers who served & to look into the eyes of those being served.

The Channel 7 evening news team suggested 1,200 people attended throughout the 2 hour party period from 6- 8pm. The line started to form outside a little after 5pm. It was a sight to behold!

Words cannot express the thankfulness in our hearts for the willingness of our people, in the midst of the busiest season of the year, to use their gifts to bless others. Many seeds were planted on Thursday night and our mission was accomplished by expressing His love through service!

4 Tattoos!

When I was getting a glass of water, I looked over at the little guy standing next to me, also getting a drink of water. I spotted his candy cane face painting & told him I thought it was pretty cool. He put his cup down, looked me straight in the eye with a HUGE grin on his face & said, "I have more!" He then showed me the tattoo on his other cheek & on top of both of his hands. His face was beaming! I asked if he was having a good time & he replied (with lots of animation), YES! May God bless those who painted all those faces & put on all those tattos! I spoke with one little guy who was certainly appreciative!

What it's about

I got tears last night just thinking as I wiped tables and told people "Merry Christmas" .... THIS IS IT.... Christmas is all about helping others have a special day. I was in amazement with the HUGE bags of toys and the large families coming to celebrate.

Here's a few... A man at the end came to ask if he could get anything for his 2 teenage kids, wow did my heart break, he was not signed up until that night.... but, we went to work going through the leftover bags to find him toys. I could say NO, no way... God will make a way. Or the 2 cute kids that came running up to ask if Santa was coming to the Party.... I smiled and said no, but he will probably come to your house in a couple day. I was just filled with JOY as the people sang and I smiled and prayed for many of them. Why can't everyday here on earth, be like last night??

Merry Christmas... Have a blessed day celebrating Jesus Birthday.

I now know how to cook 800 hot dogs in roasters... Sounds kind of funny, but it was a major concern.
We wanted to serve them hot.
And the question was how many hot dogs will fit in one roaster and how long will they take to cook?
The answer came when my sister-in-law looked at me with very concerned eyes and said " Curt,... the hot dogs.. they are blowing the lids off the roasters....the hot dogs are blowing up!" Evidently we didn't turn 3 of the roasters down soon enough. Moral of this antidote is... Ball Park Franks are not the only hot dogs that plump when you cook them!
(BTW - The hot dogs were hot ready!)

Wow! Service is alive and well at Westside. There were so many volunteers that did so much that that touched my heart.

The Roe Family: constantly running here and there, clearing tables, empting trash cans, wiping up spills on the floor.....They were everwhere, they moved so fast, I could not capture them on film.

The Renninger Girls: I hope that the hands of the girls have finally thawed out. These faithful young ladies NEVER ABANDONED their post. They handed out hundreds of cans of pop and had their hands in ice digging for just the right flavor for every guest. "BURRRRR!" Smiles never left their faces. It proves that "Cold hands have warm hearts"

The Train Family: This family took photos all night long. At the end, there was still some cleaning to do. Nathan (their teenage son), looked at his mom & said, "Mom, I''ll stay with Dad to help." He had his hands on a chair as soon as he turned around and got right to work. He had a ticket to go to but chose to stay & serve without being asked!
